Roof Claim Denied or Underpaid? Your Options in Colorado

A denied or underpaid roof claim is frustrating, but it is not always final. Many claims are adjusted after more documentation or a second look. Here are the options Colorado homeowners have.

Read the Denial or Scope Carefully

Find out exactly why the claim was denied or what was left out. Common reasons include damage labeled as wear and tear, a storm date outside the policy window, or items like flashing and ventilation missing from the scope.

Request a Reinspection

If you believe damage was missed, you can ask the carrier for a reinspection. Have your roofer present with photos showing hail strikes, damaged soft metals, and test squares.

Submit a Supplement

When the claim is approved but underpaid, your roofer can submit a supplement. This is a documented request to add items the original scope missed, such as code-required upgrades, additional layers, or damaged accessories.

Appraisal

Most Colorado homeowner policies include an appraisal clause for disputes over the amount of loss. Each side hires an appraiser, and an umpire settles differences. It takes longer, but it is an option when the gap is large.
